  3. Omni Development, Inc. is happy to announce that OmniWeb 0.7.5 is
  4. now available.  Current OmniWeb users can download it by highlighting
  5.

  9. Others can download it from our ftp site,

  13. OmniWeb is a World-Wide-Web browser for NEXTSTEP.  Users of Mosaic
  14. and Lynx on other platforms will find it very familiar, yet with
  15. a number of pleasing touches.  The World-Wide-Web is quickly becoming
  16. the de facto standard for information distribution and unattended
  17. transactions.  For example, on the World-Wide-Web you could read
  18. about HP, Sun, and Lighthouse Design, find all the movies your
  19. favorite star has been in, order books, peruse the Library of
  20. Congress catalog, download pictures of the comet that struck jupiter,
  21. and much, much more.

  23. OmniWeb currently requires an image filter in order to view most
  24. popular image types; OmniImageFilter works and is available from
  25. ftp.omnigroup.com.  (OmniImageFilter also enables viewing of foreign
  26. images in other programs, as well.)  OmniWeb only runs under NEXTSTEP
  27. 3.1 or higher.

  29. OmniWeb 0.7.5 is primarily a bug fix release; users will find it
  30. much more stable and usable than previous releases.  All known
  31. crashers have been fixed, forms are much more robust, and a number
  32. of highly requested features have been added, including proxy
  33. support for sites with firewalls, and a find panel.

  35. OmniWeb 0.7.5 is the last completely free version of OmniWeb.
  36. Subsequent versions will require a license if more than one person
  37. at a site is using them.  Note that, if you are the only person at
  38. your site using OmniWeb, IT WILL ALWAYS BE FREE.  I'll say it again:
  39. the first user at a site gets to use OmniWeb for free, forever.
  40. No share-ware, no nothing.  Only the second user will have to pay.

  42. I think this is a nice compromise.  Shareware just makes people
  43. feel guilty, freeware woudl make us no money and so we'd never
  44. update OmniWeb, and normal commercial software is too expensive
  45. for individuals.  This way individuals can use our software for
  46. free, but businesses can have a supported app they can trust will
  47. be upgraded periodically.

  49. OmniWeb version 0.7.5 bug fixes and new features:

  52.     * Yet another new look to the main window.
  53.     * Find panel added.
  54.     * Automatic redirection is invisible, doesn't make the program insane.
  55.     * Crashers for some pages fixed.
  56.     * Dragging URL into mail doesn't cause lost text.
  57.     * ISO Latin character encoding is available through a preference.
  58.     * New "View Source" menu command added.

  60.     * 2-point link text after buttons icons gone.
  61.     * Printing documents now actually reformats them for the printed page.

  79.     * Also, we switched from the LYNX WWW library to the CERN 2.16 WWW
  80. library, which will (hopefully) move forward faster than the LYNX
  81. one. Unfortunately, CERN didn't support aborts or status messages
  82. or forms like the LYNX library, so we had to add those. CERN did
  83. give us cool proxy support, and gracefully handles multiple I/O
  84. requests. It also gave us neater FTP sessions, and allows cached
  85. icons.
